The Need for Change

These homeowners in Moorestown, New Jersey, faced several issues with their existing kitchen. It was narrow, lacked natural light and was closed off from the family room. The kitchen had an inefficient layout with an inconvenient work triangle and lacked space for a proper prep area or breakfast table. The slim island provided no room for comfortable seating, creating a cramped and impractical space, especially during family gatherings and entertaining guests.

Innovative Design Solutions

Ken Endt and the Cipriani production team transformed their space into a modern marvel. The removal of the wall between the kitchen and the family room opened the area, allowing for more natural light and a seamless flow between spaces. The new layout included two large islands—one dedicated to cooking and preparation, the other for meals and gathering. The islands feature waterfall legs and can comfortably seat six.

Overcoming Challenges

Executing this transformation was not without challenges. Installing a 23’ 16” C-channel beam to support the second floor required a crew of eight to hoist it into place and secure it to steel columns. Additionally, a toilet trap above the butler’s pantry doorway could not be relocated, leading to the creation of an artful soffit that connected the cabinet run.
