These Mount Laurel homeowners had a big (actually, small) problem – a lack of space. They wanted a sunroom addition added to the back of the home where the family could hang out and enjoy each others’ company.
Our solution was to build a uniquely-shaped addition on the back of their home. The new wall angles allowed for better views of the back yard through the new windows. We started the project by pouring a new slab foundation and framed up a half octagonal structure which gave the home more interest. Because the addition was so close to the ground, we used pressure-treated plywood around the perimeter just to make sure that we didn’t have any future water or rotting issues.
We framed up a hip roof which added even more interest to the back of the home. We installed special house wrap waterproofing around the perimeter because of the low grade. We installed new Anderson windows and wrapped the house nice and tight with Tyvek. We worked through the winter and installed new green trim and beige siding to match the rest of the exterior. We built an interesting soffit ceiling detail around the inside of the room. New recessed lighting was installed and the space was insulated and dry-walled. Finally, we created a new opening into the house using double, 15-light French doors and the concrete slab was covered with ceramic tile. Crown molding was the finishing touch to this very distinctive room.
